Introduction to Labouchere Betting System
Different betting systems have been introduced in the world of online casinos and they work differently. In this article, we will discuss one of such betting systems that goes by the name “Labouchere Betting System”.
This betting system is not as easy as the Martingale system and it is not for you if you are looking for some easy betting system.
The betting system is named after its developer Henry Labouchere who was a keen roulette player. It was meant to be used at even money outside bets of roulette like odd/even, high/low and red/black. However, this system betting system can be used for even money bets of any casino live games online and sports betting.
Like the Martingale system, the Labouchere betting system is also based on negative progression i.e. you increase your bet size after each loss. However, the betting system doesn’t recoup your earlier losses by a single win like the Martingale does. You need multiple wins to recoup your earlier losses.
Labouchere betting system is also known as Split Martingale, American Progression, or the Cancellation System. Let’s dive deeper into the Labouchere betting system and know how worth the system is.
How the Labouchere Betting System Works
Let’s understand how the betting system works with an example. It is better to use a pen and paper to keep track of the system.
First, the system starts with a sequence of numbers which can be any sequence technically. However, it is necessary to put some thought to come up with a sequence. This depends on how much you want to make a profit and on how many bets you want to make that profit.
For instance, you want to make $15 from 5 bets. Then the sequence can be: 2, 3, 5, 3, 2
For making bet each time, your bet size should be equal to the sum of the first and last number in your sequence. For this example, your bet size would be $(2 + 2) i.e. $4.
When you win your bet, you have to remove that first and last number of the sequence. Suppose you win and the sequence becomes: 3, 5, 3.
Repeating the process, you have to add the two end numbers again for the next bet size. Now, you add 3 and 3; and your bet size is $6.
When you lose your bet, you have to add the bet amount lost to the right end of the sequence. Suppose you lose a $6 bet this time and now the sequence becomes: 3, 5, 3, 6
The same process of adding two end numbers for determining bet size continues. When you win, you remove two numbers and you add the bet to the end of the sequence when you lose.
But what if you are left with one number? In that case, your bet size is the remaining number. The process ends when there is no remaining number in the sequence.
In the above example, your next bet amount is the sum of 3 and 6 i.e. $9. Suppose you win and the sequence becomes: 5, 3.
Then, you bet $8 ($5 +$3) and suppose you win. Then, there is no number remaining and the cycle is over.
In this cycle,
Total win = bets won – bets lost = ($4 + $9 + $8) – $6 = $15
which is equal to the sum of the numbers in the sequence chosen at first.
So, this is all there is to understand how this betting system works. Although it is not as easy as Martingale, it is not that complicated. Labouchere betting strategy becomes straightforward once you have got your head around it.
For each cycle of this betting system, you can make a profit equal to the sum of the numbers in your original sequence.
Pros and Cons of Labouchere Betting System
The major advantage of this betting system is that you can make your targeted profit even if you lose more times than you win. Remember that, you apply this betting system on even money bets of casino games where you have a nearly 50% chance of winning. So, this boosts the confidence of players in a game.
Moreover, the Labouchere betting system is well-organized and players applying it will know how much they have to bet each time. If they follow the process of the betting system, they have a chance of walking away with the profit they initially desire.
No betting system is free from downside. The Labouchere betting strategy or system is no exception. The major downside of this system is that it is risky as it is based on negative progression. There is no guarantee that you will be able to recoup your earlier losses and it is possible that you could go on a losing streak. If you lose more times, you have more chances of losing a high amount of money.
Because of that, the Labouchere betting system is not suitable for players with a limited amount of bankroll. So, if you don’t want to take high risks, then you should avoid this betting system at all.
We hope that this article is helpful for you to understand how the Labouchere betting strategy works. It’s up to you whether to go with this strategy or not. Remember that the Labouchere betting system doesn’t guarantee your winnings and it has its downsides. Also, the casino house edge is unaffected by this system. Only apply this betting system if you have sufficient bankroll and can afford its risks.
